After having remodeled our kitchen I want to save you some time and avoid disappointment. If you are planning to remodel your kitchen this post is very helpful. I want to list a few things that people don’t think about when remodeling a kitchen and might regret not doing.
My husband and I spent some time thinking over our plans to remodel our kitchen. We changed our plan multiple times and love the result.
I think you will agree with me that the best kitchen is the most functional, at the end it is where you will be cooking. It has to be easy to clean and everything in the kitchen has to have its place. But since we spend in the kitchen so much time, I wanted to make sure it is aesthetically pleasing as well.
1. Pull-out drawer for trash cans. Trash sometimes is unavoidable during cooking, so having a specific drawer for trash and recycling cans will save you so much time because it is so easy to use. We didn’t want to keep trash cans near the kitchenware, so we used the end cabinet that is attached to the fridge. The top drawer is used for things like parchment paper, cling wrap, and foil.
2. Light in the window cabinets. Since light underneath the cabinets is a must, consider installing light in the window cabinets as well. This tip is for a more aesthetically pleasing kitchen. I love how it looks and it adds so much light even during the day. Also, it helps displaying your kitchenware, those pieces that you really love.
We added lights to side cabinet as well.
3. Outlet strip underneath the cabinets. This is a great way to make a seamless backsplash without any outlets. We used the strip with USB as well, which is very helpful for charging phones or other gadgets. This gives backsplash a clean and simplistic look.
4. Drawer for spices. This is a must if you like to cook. Cleanly displayed spices save so much time during cooking. When we still had our old kitchen, we noticed the lack of drawers. So, during the remodel we decided to add more than enough drawers for all the cooking utensils and gadgets.
5. Dishwasher with cover panel. This is definitely extra but I think it gives a cleaner look to the cabinets. Very useful and a lot more easier to clean than stainless steel cover. You will need to buy a dishwasher specifically for cover panels. We got ours at IKEA.
