And finally, let’s get to all of the things to do in Venice. Let’s be realistic there so many things to do in Venice that we would have to stretch this blog for miles, so I decided to list 5 most iconic places that I believe are a must to visit if you go to Venice, especially if you don’t have a lot of time.
1. St. Mark’s Basilica – Basilica Cattedrale Patriarcale di San Marco
In the first place, it just has to be St. Mark’s Basilica – Basilica Cattedrale Patriarcale di San Marco: Build around c.829-c.836 St. Marks Basilica is one of the most famous religious buildings in the Northern Italy.
Located in the center of Venice on Piazza San Marco next to grand canal, it is very easily accessible regardless of where you stay.
This church is amazing in both architecture and design, and it is so fascinating how people built and maintained it to be as good as it was when first built.
2. St Mark’s Square
In the second place we have St Mark’s Square, it is the most iconic piazza to visit, in the the most important in all of Italy, and it is in the same place as St. Mark’s Basilica.
You have to go up the St. Mark’s Bell Tower, most of the time there are lines to wait in, but it’s totally worth it, when we were there we were able to get first in line and go up the tower.
The panoramic view is just so incredible that it makes you want to stay up there for hours and just enjoy the view, you’ll never want to leave, I know I didn’t 😊.
One thing to remember, there are bells right above you when you are up there, so make note what time you are there and make sure not to get scared when bells start ringing, they ring on fixed times.
Admissions fees was very reasonable and they do have lower fee for teenagers.
3. Gondola ride
Gondola ride is one of the most iconic things you can do in Venice, it is truly one of the best ways to experience and appreciate Venice.
4. Ponte di Rialto
On the third place it has to be Ponte di Rialto.
It is by far the most iconic bridge of all bridges in Venice that is spanning the Grand Canal, and is most iconic with taking pictures with Gelato 🍦.
5. Grand Canal – Canale Grande
There are hundreds of canals in Venice which interconnect many islands together and Grand Canal is the largest of all.
Grand Canale, or Canale Grande, is the biggest and has the most important role by providing main and biggest route from one side to the other in the city of Venice for hundreds of years.
It is also one of the most iconic places to visit and take pictures 📸 on the top of the bridge.
Consider taking a walk alongside of the canal to admire the old and beautiful architecture that was build hundreds of years ago.
6. Venice Lido
And the last but not least, Venice Lido, the beautiful and famous beach of Lido.
The seven mile long, with approximate population of 20,000 people island that is situated North of Venice is by far the best place where you can escape the crowds and take time to relax.
When you take a ferry from Venice to Lido, they arrive at the perfect spot where you can cross the island from one side to the other in minutes, and on the way you will find lots of great places to dine and relax.
It is very quiet there, people are super nice and friendly, and we loved our time over there, you really have to be there to appreciate the environment.
The ferry that goes to Lido is located right outside of the train station in Venice, it is really easy to spot the ferry station, you can always ask around when in doubt, to make sure you don’t get on the boat that goes some place else.
